INSPIRATION
Sycamore seed cloud is a visual feast of eight flying seeds placed precisely so as to fly within millimetres of each other.
Following the creation of Kinetic Seed Sculpture, I wanted to take the idea further and make a more intricate piece that really captured the feeling I remember as a child when picking up a handful of Sycamore seeds and throwing them up high into the air.
‘Flight’ has an engaging, elegant movement but nonetheless has the presence to focus both small and larger spaces. When at rests this piece has a feeling of movement although it demands very little breeze to set in motion.
This work is a twofold homage to nature, the seed form and the wind. In the natural world, the two work in perfect harmony, the seed having evolved over millions of years into a finely tuned wing. This harmony is present throughout nature, it is harmony that we humans strive for, and sometimes struggle to find.
